The Vocal.Media app was released for iOS devices in August and after that release, we knew that an Android app was not far behind from release and about a week ago, it was released.

All existing Vocal creators got a link to download the app. It’s not that easy to find on the app store since it’s still a new app.

The Vocal app is all-round okay for reading purposes, you can comment, add articles to your bookshelf (which I guess is a new feature), and some basic stuff you'd expect it to do.

Writing isn't exactly available on the Mobile app yet but I'm sure it's something they are working towards.

Comparing it with the Medium Mobile App

Medium has been around much longer than Vocal Media has so it's no surprise that their app is better but I'm not taking anything away from Vocal at all. Their app is great!

You can't exactly manage your content like viewing your stats or finding the strong points of your article on the Vocal App like you do on Medium.

The Medium App isn't perfect either and for a platform that's been around for some time, their mobile app just isn't good enough. None of the beautiful formatting options available on the desktop version of Medium is no where to be found on the app. That really needs fixing!

Key Features Vocal Media Need to Get on the App

  1. Writing Functionality: This will be the most valuable element of the app for creators and I hope Vocal Media takes out time to get all the formatting features available on the app.
  2. Advanced Audience Statistics: I also hope to be able to view all my audience stats like reading time, earnings, and audience interests without having to leave the app.

Final Thoughts:

While the initial release of the Vocal.Media app is a great first step to mobile flexibility, we hope to see more features in coming updates to increase engagement and boost how productive writers can be on the app.
